A portable ABC fire extinguisher of at least  a 5 pound capacity should be readily available for use on your property.  The larger the square footage, the more fire extinguishers you are required to have available.  Federal law requires those extinguishers to undergo an annual inspection from a contractor licensed to perform fire extinguisher maintenance.   Why?  Fire extinguishers DO expire.  Over time, the seal on the neck will weaken and allow compressed gas to escape. Extinguishers that have lost much of their pressure will not operate.

Green is good. It keeps you safe.

Other than an annual inspection, the National Fire Prevention Association requires portable fire extinguishers of all sizes to be inspected monthly.  However, a licensed contractor does not have to perform the monthly inspection.  During the inspection, you should verify:

• The extinguishers is in a visible, unobstructed, and designated location
• The extinguisher does not have corrosion, leakage, a clogged nozzle, or other obvious damage
• The operating instructions are visible, readable, and facing forward
• The pressure gauge indicator is within the “green” shaded area
• The extinguisher is full (lift the extinguisher to assess fullness)
• The locking pin is intact accompanied by an unbroken tamper seal
• The extinguisher has been serviced by a licensed fire extinguisher contractor within the last 12 months
When all components have been verified according to the above criteria, initial and date the back of the tag to document the monthly inspection. #protectyouandyourproperty     A&A ensures your home or business stays in compliance with the NFPA and Arkansas Fire Prevention Code.     Call the experts at A&A Fire and Safety today!  501-834-5353.   A&A Fire and Safety Company services the state of Arkansas including Little Rock, Cabot, Sherwood, Jacksonville, Levy, North Little Rock, Maumelle, Conway, Morrilton, Russellville, Ft.
